Three years ago today I married my best friend and
soul mate. We left our wedding reception and headed to Porky’s, our favorite
Prescott barbecue joint which has since closed down. We had absolutely no idea
how many adventures were ahead of us. We meant it then when we said
forever but now we mean it even more.

Twenty Dollar Date: Motor Vu
Haylee recently shared an awesome website which shows you the drive-ins currently still open and functioning all over the U.S.
Friday night Ryan said he felt like going to a movie. We both feel like it's rude to take a baby into a movie theater (both to those seeing the movie and the poor baby) so he was just making a statement, but then I remembered the drive-in website. We were very excited to find one in Riverdale, Utah... not too far from us for a once-in-a-while treat! There was even a Starbucks right down the road so we took advantage of a gift card we had.
It actually worked out perfectly, even more perfectly than we'd expected. The little guy ate before we left, then slept right up to the tail end of the movie though I'd expected him to wake up sooner. He ate again in the truck and then dozed off for the drive home, got a diaper change and a feeding. He actually slept for four hours, four hours, then three hours. It was glorious!
A lot of people had futon mattresses and such in the beds of trucks or in the hatches of SUVs and had a very cozy viewing experience. Maybe we'll try that next time, who knows... but in the meantime, we were so happy to have a little "date" night at the movies!

Did any of you hike or find old hiking pictures this weekend? I'm hoping to collect a few more before sharing them in the next Your Town feature on Saturday!

Weekly Health Challenge
The challenge was to get in a healthy, protein-filled breakfast every morning. Breakfast has become a challenge. This boy does not want to sleep! He takes two or three short naps during the day (an hour if he's strapped to me in a baby carrier, otherwise only 15-20 minutes in his crib/bassinet) and doesn't really go to sleep until after his late feeding, around 9 or 10pm. I work out and spend time with Ryan from then until 11, then I finally get to sleep for two-ish hours at a time. I snooze with the little man until 8:30 or 9 most mornings. At that point he's ready to eat, then it's closer to ten. If I actually took the time to prepare a big breakfast at that point, it'd be nearly lunchtime by the time it was ready. That has given me a mindset that it isn't worth it... but it definitely is.
I still find it hard to go make a meal at that point (especially since he is colicky most afternoons and that morning chunk of time is a cheerful storytime/playtime goldmine) so I wanted to focus on setting myself up for success in advance.

| Monday I had a peanut butter & banana smoothie I'd made the night before (froze it until right before bedtime, then defrosted it in the refrigerator overnight) and a Larabar. Tuesday I had quiche (sausage, tomato, onion, bell pepper & goat cheese; made Monday night and re-heated throughout the week) and half an orange. Wednesday I had quiche & a banana. Thursday I had quiche and plain yogurt with local honey mixed in. Friday I had french toast made with paleo bread, 1 scrambled egg and half an orange. |
Did you fuel up with a healthy breakfast each day this week?
Next week's challenge is to track calories and macronutrients which will help us spot healthy and unhealthy habits. MyFitnessPal and SparkPeople are great online tools for this, or if you are like me and don't like to get online everyday you can use a book like this one!
If you aren't interested in counting calories you can still focus on tracking nutrients. Write down the nutrients you want to focus on (fiber, protein, calcium, vitamins A,B,C; etc.) and make a tally mark next to them as you consume them throughout the day.
Also, I'm still collecting hike photos for my next Your Town post which goes up on the 22nd! Take some time to snap a quick hike photo or send an old one to me: SaraBell2010@yahoo.com

| I am absolutely loving our afternoon walk routine... keeps me in shape and makes colic more bearable; cheat night = family frozen yogurt date; the book I read this week and the bouncy seat I have fallen in love with! |
Deanna recently shared Whimsical Woods which makes me feel a lot less sad about the fact that this little boy is going to get older every day. She also shared another Roaming Gnome post recently and this one is in Texas!
-
I always enjoy Kelle Hampton's travel posts. This one is another Isle of Capri post... only now she has a cute baby boy to bring with her!
-
I can't remember how I came across these gorgeous Madagascar photos but they make me so obsessed with an African safari trip!
-
I love Airstreamy's little glimpse at their Airstream and a Tucson, Arizona trip. Aaaaaand now I want an Airstream.
-
I always love a good baby-travel post so Ashlee's northwest adventure makes me so happy and Google Maps-happy!

Summer Wanderlust
It's happening again.
We're having trouble sitting still and we can't stop planning trips we can't afford to do all at once.
We always love to travel but for some reason summer makes it mandatory.
We currently have a Utah trip planned, an Arizona trip in the works, and quite a few pipedream trips we've got to narrow down.
Are you going anywhere this summer?
