I have a few more fun blast-from-the-past travel photos for you today!
When I was in sixth grade, my family went to Las Vegas.
While the evenings are definitely not a great time to take a little one around (hustlers stand along the street handing prostitute cards to anyone with a hand) the day time really does make it a pretty fun, family-friendly place.
Street performers make their money by working off tips. They dress up like Star Wars characters, paint themselves like robots and dance, you name it. We had a blast watching them do their thing near the M&M store (which has fun kid-friendly videos and tons of things kids can beg their parents to waste money on) and the Coca Cola store (which has a huge arcade below), we enjoyed seeing all of celebrity wax figurines at Madame Tussaud's, and then we had a blast in the kids area at Circus Circus.
We saw a trapeze act, rock climbed, played in the bumper cars, rode roller coasters, wasted thousands of my parents' hard-earned dollars on crappy "fair food" and prizes we couldn't win, and watched a magic show for which I was invited to hop on stage and participate!
In all honesty, I actually think Vegas is a really great place to take a kid if you plan it out right. Spend your days seeing these things, as well as a few other cheap/free exhibits like the arcade in the Excalibur, the wildlife habitat in The Flamingo, the lions at MGM, and maybe the dolphins at the mirage. Spend your evenings seeing the Fremont Street light show, playing in your hotel pool, and if you feel like really splurging one night then go have dinner while watching the Tournament of the Kings at Excalibur.
My family did the Tournament of the Kings dinner and my brother and I LOVED it.

I went to Vegas when I was 16 with my boyfriend and his family. We really wanted to see that pirate show they do on the strip, but didn't get there until late, like 11:30. Well, turns out the late ones are much racier than the day ones! The girls were wearing bikinis and the boys little underwear! We walked by again the next day during the day and they were all fully clothed and normal again!
ReplyDeleteInteresting, the whole reason I didn't list that is because that show was so much racier the last time we were there than it was when I was a kid! Not horrible, but the sirens all had lingerie on and were a bit provocative. I think we went around 9pm though, give or take, so I bet that's why!
